Questions we are asked before every first meeting.

Short, direct answers on what BM Defence & Security AG builds, what is available today, which standards the systems follow and how a procurement conversation starts.

What is BM Defence & Security AG?

BM Defence & Security AG is a European defence technology company that develops, integrates and produces unmanned systems for air, land, surface, subsea and infrastructure use. Its portfolio, the GHOST family, covers thirteen system lines that share one command software, one sensor standard and one interface description.

Which unmanned systems does BMDS offer?

BMDS offers thirteen system lines: the Carrier Kit for platform integration, the Q100 and QMed ISR quadcopters, the Thorn interceptor with its fibre guided variant, the L100 loitering munition, the I100 turbine interceptor, the UGV-100 ground vehicle, the USV-100 surface vessel, the UUV-100 underwater vehicle, the DP-100 drone in a box station, the portable GHOST GCS, the GHOST CORE software and the GHOST AI Vision Kit.

What is the GHOST family?

The GHOST family is the BMDS system portfolio. Every line uses the same command software, the same sensor payload standard and the same interface description, so an operator who adopts one line can add the next without a second command system, a second training course or a second maintenance chain.

What is GHOST CORE?

GHOST CORE is the BMDS command software. It holds command and control, ground station software, datalink management, swarm logic, mission planning and the AI vision stack in one modular codebase covering air, land, sea and infrastructure systems. A human decision in the engagement loop is enforced by the architecture.

Does BMDS build counter drone interceptors?

Yes. BMDS fields two interceptor classes under one command system. The Thorn is an attritable FPV interceptor produced in high numbers against saturation attacks. The I100 is a turbine powered interceptor for fast one way attack drones, including jet driven variants.

Where are BMDS systems built?

BMDS systems are designed and built in Europe. Series production runs in fixed and mobile manufacturing cells with a European supply chain across structure, drives, electronics and optics. The company operates from Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic.

Which standards do BMDS systems follow?

BMDS systems are designed to NATO STANAG 4586 and STANAG 4703, to STANREC 4818 for ground systems, to EMAR 21 requirements and to EU Regulations 2019/945 and 2019/947. The certification status and target date of each line are published on the programmes page.

Can several BMDS systems be operated from one ground station?

Yes. The portable GHOST GCS commands at least eight systems at the same time across air, land, sea and infrastructure, with a design ratio of one operator to four systems. Two people set it up in thirty minutes.

What is the difference between the Thorn and the I100?

The Thorn is an attritable FPV interceptor below 4.5 kg, produced in numbers against slow and medium speed drones. The I100 is a turbine interceptor designed for more than 600 km/h against fast attack drones. One operator commands both from the same ground station.

Does BMDS offer drone in a box systems for critical infrastructure?

Yes. The GHOST DP-100 launches, lands, charges and synchronises an aircraft without personnel on site. It is rated IP55, works from minus 25 to plus 45 degrees Celsius and includes fire suppression with remote alerting.

Can BMDS integrate its systems onto an existing platform?

Yes. The GHOST Carrier Kit turns an aircraft, ground vehicle or vessel that is already in service into a carrier for compact unmanned systems. The interface is open, several carrier platforms are integrated today and further platforms are added on request.

Does it matter whether the released system carries a sensor or an effector?

No. The GHOST interface is the same in both cases. The payload decides the mission, the carrier does not, which is why an operator changes the payload instead of buying a new system for every task.

How does BMDS handle export control?

Every inquiry is assessed against European and national export control rules. Public pages carry headline performance data only. Documentation beyond that is released under a non disclosure agreement and, where required, subject to licensing and end use documentation.

How can a ministry, agency or prime contractor engage with BMDS?

Through the secure inquiry channel on the engage page. Inquiries are answered within five working days. Three tracks exist: armed forces and prime contractors, government and homeland security agencies, and critical infrastructure operators.
